What is sustainable tourism?
The Twentytú Hostel is the first Hostel in the world to have obtained the certification BIOSPHERE OF RESPONSIBLE TOURISM.

Sustainability, applied to tourism, fully takes into account current and future, economic, social and enhanced manifestations to meet the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and communities.
The United Nations have impulsed an initiative which englobes 17 Objectives of Sustainable Developement, in Twentytú Hostel Barcelona we carry out 15 out of these 17 objectives

Reception of refugee or political exile families, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department of Barcelona City Council

Donation of food not used in our events and catering to the Parish of Sant Martí del Clot

Bicycle rental and organization of sports activities, such as yoga, to promote healthy and healthy living
Quality education
Educational and didactic initiative in the organization of technical visits for student groups to companies in the technology, engineering, architecture and design sector

Clean water and sanitation
- Gray water system, which recovers water from showers and sinks to treat it and reuse it in toilet cisterns - Contribution of 470,000 liters of water annually for times of drought in the world
Affordable and non-polluting energy
- Sustainable air conditioning and sanitary water heating system through Districlima
- Use of residual energy sources, avoiding CO2 emissions
Decent work and economic growth
Doubling the number of workers compared to our beginnings, and the possibility of job promotion
Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- Ventilated façade that optimizes air conditioning and prevents overheating in the rooms
- Home automation system that controls the temperature, and use of technological devices to control efficient electricity management
Reduction of inequalities
- Collaboration with the IReS Foundation, where we offer training and work to young people at risk of exclusion
- Contributions for the Click scholarships, a training program of the IReS Foundation to promote development and social skills through technological training
Sustainable cities and communities
- Participation in cultural events in the Poblenou neighborhood
- Annual donations and donation of €1 for each reservation in individual rooms
- Commitment to recycling
- Design collaboration with BAU in the decoration of our rooms and with BCD in the MID Talent training program
- Location in the 22@ district, the technological zone of Barcelona, considered Smart City 3.0
- Collaboration with the Sant Tomàs Foundation, from the 3rd sector, in the design of the decoration of the parking lot and, soon, in the decoration of the double rooms and dining room
- Commission of the merchandising to IcariaGráficas, from the 3rd sector
- Organization of a solidarity gala with the choir of the Catalan Down Syndrome Foundation
- Job opportunities for people with disabilities collaborating with Femarec, from La Caixa
- Offering free accommodation to volunteer doctors in surgical practices of the Ulls del món Foundation
Responsible production and consumption
- Efficient use of light with presence detectors in the hallways, regulation of light intensity according to schedule and guest capacity, and light timer in the rooms - Efficient and responsible use of water with timers in the showers and taps, providing to the planet between 40% and 60% water
- Replacing plastic in breakfast jams with glass
Climate action
Use of renewable energy (timers) and reduction of CO2 emissions
Submarine life
Collaboration with Sandemans Tours in cleaning the beach of Barcelona to take care of the natural habitat of marine animalsreducing CO2 emissions
Alliances to achieve objectives
Offering free accommodation and transport to Lampedusa Hamburg FC, made up of young refugees, for their integration into society and sport, avoiding the creation of gangs, in collaboration with City to City Barcelona FAD Award
